It has since been studied for cystic fibrosis, infection (e.g. tuberculosis, cytomegalovirus), respiratory disorders, chronic hepatitis, and cancer. Thymosin alpha-1 was first discovered in 1972 and was isolated from tissue of the thymus gland and is a potent immune function modulator.
