Bronchogen Technical Overview

Bronchogen is a four-residue peptide built from alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid and leucine. Researchers often refer to it by its one-letter code, AEDL, and it is indexed in PubChem under CID 11690869.

It is one of the short peptide bioregulators developed at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. These di-, tri- and tetrapeptides are studied for tissue-specific effects on gene expression in cell culture models.

Laboratory work on the Bronchogen peptide centers on bronchial epithelial cell cultures, DNA binding assays and promoter methylation analysis. Its small size and four charged or hydrophobic side chains make it a convenient model compound for studying how short peptides interact with nucleic acids.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Bronchogen Peptide?

Bronchogen is the synthetic tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Leu (AEDL), a short peptide bioregulator from the Khavinson series studied in bronchial epithelial cell research. BioLongevity Labs supplies it as a 20mg lyophilized powder for research use only.

What Is the Amino Acid Sequence of Bronchogen?

Bronchogen has the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Leu, written AEDL in one-letter code. Some publications list the order as Ala-Asp-Glu-Leu (ADEL), so researchers comparing studies should check the sequence each paper reports against PubChem CID 11690869.

What Is the CAS Number and Molecular Weight of Bronchogen?

Bronchogen is listed under CAS number 857267-12-0 and PubChem CID 11690869. Its molecular formula is C18H30N4O9, with a molecular weight of 446.5 g/mol and a monoisotopic mass of 446.2013 Da.

How Should Bronchogen 20mg Be Stored?

Bronchogen 20mg should be kept sealed at -20°C in its lyophilized form, away from light and moisture. Once reconstituted, it should be held at 2–8°C and used promptly.

How Is Bronchogen Purity Verified?

Each Bronchogen batch is tested by an independent laboratory to a ≥99% purity specification. The Certificate of Analysis for each batch is published before purchase.

Research Overview

In cultured bronchial epithelial cells, Bronchogen has been associated with changes in the expression of NKX2-1, SCGB1A1, SCGB3A2, FOXA1 and FOXA2, genes linked to epithelial differentiation [1]. The same study reported shifts in Ki67, Mcl-1, p53, CD79 and NOS-3 protein levels across early and late culture passages, with the largest proliferation marker changes in late-passage cultures [1].

Follow-up work examined promoter methylation in aging bronchial cell cultures. Methylation of the NKX2-1 and SCGB1A1 promoter regions changed with culture age in step with their expression levels, which points to an epigenetic layer in the observed gene activity [2]. Earlier work reported that Bronchogen raised expression of the differentiation factors CXCL12 and Hoxa3 in bronchial cell cultures, again most clearly in aged passages [3].

A second thread of research looks at how the peptide interacts with DNA itself.

DNA Binding and Nucleic Acid Interaction

In fluorescence quenching assays, Bronchogen bound preferentially to deoxyribooligonucleotides containing CTG sequences, which sit within CNG sites that serve as cytosine methylation targets [4]. Calorimetry showed the peptide raised the melting temperature of calf thymus and mouse liver DNA by 3.1°C within a narrow peptide to base-pair ratio, without adenine-thymine or guanine-cytosine selectivity [5].

Molecular docking models place AEDL at a ctcc binding sequence [6], and spectroscopy in the bronchial epithelium study located a binding region in the major groove at guanine N7 [1].

Beyond cell culture, Bronchogen has been examined in a rodent model of airway remodeling induced by intermittent nitrogen dioxide exposure, where Bronchogen groups showed lower neutrophilic inflammatory markers and higher secretory IgA in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid [7]. Computational docking has also ranked AEDL among the stronger short-peptide ligands of the LAT1, LAT2 and PEPT1 transporters, a possible route of cellular uptake [8].

A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a document that verifies a compound’s identity, purity and quality through independent laboratory testing. Every compound from BioLongevity Labs is third-party tested, and its COA is published here, so researchers can review the testing record before a compound enters a protocol.

Each COA reports results from third-party laboratory analysis, including:

  • Ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS) for purity, measured against a 98% or 99% specification depending on the compound
  • Mass identification for molecular confirmation and content quantitation
  • Endotoxin testing by Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) or recombinant Factor C (rFC) assay, depending on the laboratory
  • Visual and physical characterization of the finished material

How to Verify a COA Independently

You can check every certificate against the issuing laboratory’s own records, not just the copy hosted here. Verification does not depend on BioLongevity Labs.

  • AV Analytics certificates carry a search code. Scan the QR code on the certificate to open the laboratory’s verification page, or enter the search code at avanalytical.com/coa-search to pull the official record.
  • BioRegen reports of analysis carry a Report ID and a Validation Key. Scan the QR code on the certificate to open the official record, or quote both identifiers when you contact the laboratory at the address printed on the report.
  • SafeCert Labs issued a number of earlier certificates. Each one carries a COA number and the signature of the reporting chemist. Quote that number when you ask the laboratory to confirm it.
  • Older certificates from other laboratories list their own verification details on the document.

When a batch is sent to more than one laboratory, each certificate resolves at its own issuing laboratory. A researcher can then check the results against two unrelated sources.

These COAs come from independent certified laboratories, not in-house testing. That gives researchers a verifiable record of molecular integrity for each compound. All compounds are supplied for research use only.
